Advent concert in the Grunewaldkirche on 9 December 2017
The Grunewaldkirche in Bismarckallee was once again the venue of our traditional Advent concert this year. Numerous international guests and members of Willkommen in Berlin had gathered with their family members to celebrate the Advent in a pleasant atmosphere.
After a short greeting by Dr. Gundula Beyer-Zouboulis, Pastor Dr. Bernhard Felmberg who is Ministerial Director of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development addressed the guests. He shared his thoughts about the meaning of Advent, particularly at the present time with its complex challenges. His speech was followed by the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke recited by WiB members in Italian, Kiswahili and Hungarian.
The musical program was not missed out. The charming duet David Schirmer on the grand piano and Johannes Köthke on the cello played the the classical pieces by Saint-Saens, Bach, Mozart and others. The guests sang famous German and English Christmas carols before they enjoyed the buffet filled with homemade cakes and cookies, the mulled wine and punch.
The afternoon Advent celebration provided our international guests with many opportunities for good discussions and a forum for lively cultural exchange. Cheers to the new year 2018!
