Caspar David Friedrich - Infinite Landscapes
To mark the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich's birth, the Alte Nationalgalerie is presenting the first major exhibition on the work of this most important painter of German Romanticism entitled “Caspar David Friedrich - Infinite Landscapes”. It includes over 60 paintings and more than 50 drawings from Germany and abroad, including world-famous icons such as “The Sea of Ice” from the Hamburger Kunsthalle and “Chalk Cliffs on Rügen” from the Kunst Museum Winterthur.
Shortly after the opening, the Willkommen in Berlin art group had the opportunity to visit this exhibition on May 8th, 2024. Art historian Thomas R. Hoffmann guided the members through the exhibition with his expertise and gave us an understanding of the painter's life and work with his interesting explanations.
In addition to visiting the exhibition, there was also time for lively discussions and suggestions for further publications and presentations as part of the Caspar David Friedrich Year. A great event for the art-loving members of Welcome to Berlin!
