2017 New Year reception

Willkommen in Berlin´s 2017 New Year reception on January 17th once again proved a highlight in Berlin's diplomatic life. President Tone Korssund-Eichinger, Vice-President Dr. Gundula Beyer-Zouboulis and members of WiB welcomed ambassadors, diplomats, staff members of the German Foreign Service and representatives of business and Berlin`s society.

In her opening remarks, Korssund-Eichinger expressed her sincere thanks to all of WiB´s active members whose dedication and energy is a testament to the organization's role in furthering cosmopolitanism, tolerance, and diversity. She extended particular thanks to the German Foreign Ministry, as well as all donors and sponsors, who enable the Club's ongoing work – and this special evening in particular!

In her address, Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser, Director General for Political Affairs and Germany's Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, outlined global political challenges for the upcoming year. But she also reminded her audience of positive results in international politics.

The Foreign Ministry also provided the evening´s musical entertainment programme. Its in-house JAAzzband played to the conversations and were only interrupted by the surprise visit of the three Emerson daughters who, on their last good-bye round-trip through Berlin, stopped by to perform their own Berlin song. As did the daughters, Kimberly M. Emerson, received a long lasting round of applause for her dedication and hospitality to Willkommen in Berlin.
