Advent Celebration at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
The festive Advent celebration, organised by WIB, took place on the eve of 1st Advent in the chapel of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on Breitscheidplatz on the theme of peace, reconciliation and international understanding.
The former pastor of the memorial church, Martin Gremer, spoke about the history of this historic site, about war, destruction, reconstruction and reconciliation. Stories about Christmas traditions, prayers in the spirit of international understanding and, of course, music rounded off the programme.
Alexandra von Roepke delighted the audience with her powerful mezzo-soprano voice, Diala Hanana accompanied on the grand piano and Matthew accompanied the song ‘Daughter of Zion’ on the trumpet. The guests were able to sing along and did so enthusiastically.
This was followed by a reception with mulled wine, coffee and Christmas biscuits and a chat in an Advent atmosphere, further entertained by guests who enjoyed singing. Then it was time to head home via the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz.
