Advent concert in the village church Alt-Schmargendorf

The traditional Advent concert took place at the beautiful early Gothic village church Alt-Schmargendorf on 8 December 2018. Built from field stones, the construction of the church began in 1280. The 66 square meters floor can accommodate around 80 people. It is the smallest preserved village church in Berlin.

Olaf Trenn, the Head of Studies for Vocational Training in the Vicariate of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, welcomed the members of Welcome to Berlin, the international guests and their family members with warm thoughts about Advent. The duo violin-organ concert was a great joy. The famous violinist Vladi Corda who is also the organizer, the artistic director and the concert master of the Berlin Residence Orchestra, played the wonderful pieces such as Pastoral of J. Rheinberger, accompanied by organist David Schirmer who has performed his fine music for the third time in the club’s Advent concert.

This year, diplomatic club members presented the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke in English, Guaraní and Afrikaans. The Christmas carols followed by a cozy get-together with home-baked specialties and punch brought everyone into a happy Christmas spirit.
