Irish Race Day at at the Hoppegarten Horse Racecourse

On Sunday, 10 May 2026, the WiB members and their guests gathered for the traditional “Irish Race Day” at the historic Hoppegarten horse racing track. From the grandstand, everyone enjoyed magnificent views across the racetrack while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere created by visitors from all over the world.

With great personal charm, Countess Tini Rothkirch, the long-standing chairwoman of the Racing Club at the Hoppegarten racecourse and Mrs. Schiller guided the group through the grounds, sharing many interesting stories and background details along the way. The members also had the opportunity to visit the historic weighing hall, where jockeys are weighed before the races, and the saddling area, where the horses are prepared and presented for inspection ahead of betting.

A special highlight of the day was the exclusive champagne reception hosted by Mr. Gerhard Schöningh, owner and operator of Hoppegarten, at the oldest historic grandstand. During the reception, he shared personal stories and captivating details about the rich history and traditions of the racecourse. Afterwards, the members and guests spent the remainder of the afternoon at their leisure, enjoying the unique atmosphere of this distinguished venue.
