Jour Fixe November
In an on-going effort to better acquaint our diplomatic guests with Berlin and Germany, on November 7th, we paid a visit to the seat of Berlin's Lord Mayor, popularly known as the Red Town Hall. Preceeding visits to the Federal Chancellery and the Bundesrat took place in May and October this year, respectively.
We were personally greeted by Deputy Mayor and Senator for Labour, Integration and Women, Ms Dilek Kolat, in what was probably the first encounter for many WiB members with a Berlin politician. In a down-to-earth and approachable manner, Ms Kolat talked about her work, personal development and ethnic origin, as well as her decision to devote her career to politics.
We received a very warm welcome, and by way of English and German language guided tours, obtained a sense of the history of the building as it has been used during various political epochs.
