Reception at Bellevue Palace
On June 5,2025, First Lady Elke Büdenbender, hosted a reception at Bellevue Palace, organized by the “History and Politics” group. A total of 33 WIB members attended, including 25 accredited diplomats in Berlin.
The visit provided the WiB members with a valuable insight into daily life and work at the Bellevue Palace. With expert guidance, the members had the opportunity to tour the palace and its gardens, and learned many details about the protocols surrounding state visits and press meetings. A particular highlight was the chance to view the Federal President’s official office.
Elke Büdenbender welcomed the WiB members with warmth and empathy. Following her opening remarks, a lively and engaging discussion took place covering a wide range of topics. Questions from the WiB members addressed everyday routines at the palace, the challenges of balancing public duties with family and professional responsibilities, as well as the First Lady’s personal projects. We are honored that Elke Büdenbender accepted the invitation to become an honorary member of our club.
The visit to Bellevue Palace greatly deepened our understanding of the processes of a state visit behind the scenes. We are pleased that this event could take place, particularly as the upcoming major renovations of Bellevue Palace are scheduled to begin in 2026 and expected to last several years, during which visits will not be possible.
