Visit to the Federal Chancellery
On 24 October 2018 WIB had the opportunity to visit the Federal Chancellery. Architects Axel Schultes and Charlotte Frank designed the building and it was opened in 2001. After a brief meeting with the group, the Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel took the time to say few words to the WIB members despite her tight schedule. She emphasized with her calm charisma the importance of harmonious international relations and the significant role of the assigned diplomats in Germany.
After the very informative tour, the group took the occasion to visit the spectacular building on the Spree. The nine levels in the line construction are toned in elegantly coordinated color scheme and house Large and Small Cabinet Hall, the offices of the Minister of State, international conference room and offices for the 650 employees in addition to the office of the Federal Chancellor.
The art collection in the Chancellery complex is worth seeing. Among the important works are the famous monumental sculpture Berlin by Eduardo Chillida on the forecourt, and the gallery of the official portraits of the former Federal Chancellors that occupies the first floor.
