Reflections on a Quantum World: WE FELT A STAR DYING
On May 4th, 2025, Willkommen in Berlin had the opportunity to attend the finissage of WE FELT A STAR DYING, a groundbreaking installation by French artist Laure Prouvost, presented by LAS Art Foundation at Kraftwerk Berlin. As part of the closing event, members of the club were invited to an exclusive guided tour through the immersive exhibition space.
The installation marked the 100th anniversary of quantum physics and explored the field’s most elusive phenomena—uncertainty, fragility, and cosmic interconnection—through a unique artistic lens. Over a period of two years, Prouvost developed the work in collaboration with a specially designed AI model and through rare access to a quantum computer. The result was a multisensory environment composed of video, sound, scent, sculpture, and scenography, tuned to the unpredictable logic of quantum mechanics.
Set inside the raw industrial architecture of Kraftwerk Berlin, a former power station, the installation invited audiences to experience reality from a quantum perspective. It posed a poetic and philosophical question: What does the world feel like when we think in quantum terms?
LAS Art Foundation—an interdisciplinary platform based in Berlin—commissions and presents innovative works at the intersection of art, science, and technology. With WE FELT A STAR DYING, LAS once again demonstrated its commitment to redefining how audiences engage with contemporary issues through art.
As a member of the BerlinPress Club noted, the experience was “a poetic collision of science and sensation—truly unforgettable.” The Süddeutsche Zeitung called the installation “"sensational – an artistic approach to the incomprehensible nature of quantum physics.”
With the finissage, this extraordinary exhibition has come to a close—but its questions and impressions continue to resonate.
