First Steps in Berlin group explored Tempelhof neighborhood on 10 April 2018. They had a guided tour at the former Tempelhof Airport and learned about the history of the airport. The highlight of the visit was to see the fleet of the Berliner Airlift called the Raisin Bombers. The transport aircraft brought in food supplies with an airlift to the population in West Berlin during the post-World War II when the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies’ land and waterways to Berlin. The Berlin Airlift began its operation on 24 June 1949 and officially ended on 30 September 1949.
