The 16 States Group took a trip to Brandenburg/Havel on 29 September 2015. On a bright late summer day 40 members from 30 countries were welcomed in the Cathedral "Peter and Paul" by the Lord Mayor Dr. Tiemann and former Prime Minister Dr. Manfred Stolpe and Dr. Etta Schiller of the association "Pro Brandenburg".
Brandenburg has 71.000 inhabitants and has evolved in recent years to a small jewel. It was a joy to get to know the part of the town known as "Stadt im Fluss" through a guided walking tour. As one of the BUGA venues with an unusual exhibition concept, the city of Brandenburg has much to offer. It has styled the grounds of the historic Packhof Wiemann-shipyard with 33 themed gardens, all of which are situated directly along the Havel. They have also designed a flower hall in the relicts of an old church, the Blumenhalle in Johanniskirche, thereby presenting garden art in a most unusual setting. The largest, highest and most central park of the city is situated on the Marienberg.
The enthusiasm of the members caused quite a stir, especially since there were countless photo opportunities. The ladies even photographed each other jumping on the trampolines. It was an interesting and fun filled excursion and we are grateful for the generous invitation!
