A Visit to the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing
To kick off the new club year, on the 9th of October, 32 members of the group became acquainted with the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM). First of all, the press spokesperson of the establishment, Dr. Rockland, gave an introduction to and overview of the institution's diverse duties and responsibilities. Essentially, the staff of BAM study, investigate, and advise on how to protect humans, the environment and material assets.
Thereafter, Dr. Eckhardt, Director of the Division of Explosives, and Dr. Kunte, Director of the Division of Biodeterioration and Reference Organisms presented their fields in more detail. In four small groups, the enthralled participants were able to ask many questions and, among other things, observe termites in their living space and experience a demonstration of highly explosive materials.
