Listening Post at the Teufelsberg

„Unbekanntes Berlin“last event of this club year took place June 24, 2016. We visited the ruins of former American listening post Teufelsberg. Until the end of the Cold War approximately 1500 Americans and Brits will have listened to communication of the enemy reaching very deep into the Eastern Bloc. Teufelsberg (Devil’s Mountain) is a 114m high hill made from an estimated 12 million cubic meter of war rubble. The spokesman of the Initiative Kultur-DENK-MAL Berliner Teufelsberg e.V. gave an excellent overview of Teufelsberg’s history and function, as well as what is happening now and what is planned for the future. The breathtaking view from the white cupola gives a sensational 360 ° impression of the metropole of Berlin. The graffiti exposed there indicate that many creatives have found a great open air studio.
