Visit to a Women´s Prison – JVA – Berlin Lichtenberg

23 members of the group "Unknown Berlin" were given the chance to visit Lichtenberg's women´s prison on February 6th 2015.

The governors of the prison, Mr. Blümel and Ms. Köhler, provided detailed and cogent information about the law enforcement authorities in Germany, the daily life of the inmates in Lichtenberg, and also gave an overview of the history of the building.

As far back as in 1906, the building was made into a prison attached to the district court of Lichtenberg and has been used ever since as a detention center, with only one interruption during the period from 1990 to 1998.
