Visit to the Agency of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic (BStU) - Former Stasi-Headquarters (Ministry of State Security of East Germany)

32 group members got to know the archives and work of the Stasi Records Agency on February 26, 2014. Mrs. Dagmar Hovestädt, spokeswoman of the agency, lead through the morning and explained the international significance of this unique archive – an achievement of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 and a world-wide first attempt of opening a secret police archive.

During a guided tour through the archives of the agency the interested group had the opportunity to look at the massive amount of paper the secret police Stasi left behind, received information on structure, effect and methods of the Stasi and learned about the every-day work of the Stasi Records Agency (BStU).

The memorable morning ended with a visit to the Stasi-Museum Berlin, located in the very building which used to be the seat of the head of the Stasi, Erich Mielke.
