Up and Down

The enthusiastic members of the Museums and Exhibitions group visited the Kindl Brewery in Neukölln on 27 April 2017. Along the way, one immediately has a different impression about the district. Condominiums are built sky high. Young people lined up in front of the job center Rollberg in order to apply for Hartz IV (the reform of unemployment benefit for long-term unemployed and the welfare benefits). This is the reality in Neukölln.

On the ground of the abandoned Kindl Brewery where reality is perceived and reflected, the Swiss-German couple Vanholt-Grisard initiated a centre for contemporary art in October 2016. The current exhibition “up and down” shows the avant-garde of today as a mainstream of tomorrow. The curator An Paenhuysen presented artistic positions in conflicted area between subculture, sophisticated culture and its mainstream. The tour ended in café König Otto in Sudhaus.between the Braukessel and the old brewery.
