Art-Spaces

On a bright and sunny day we met at the New National Gallery, an icon of post-war architecture by Bauhaus Architect Mies van der Rohe, recently renovated by David Chipperfield. Ulf Meier explained the impressive history of the building and the personality of the architect. From the terrace of the New National Gallery, our gaze wandered to the Gemäldegalerie, built by Hilmer & Sattler, as well as to the Philharmonie designed by Hans Scharoun in the background. In front of it the construction cranes for the new building of the Contemporary Art Museum gleamed in the sun.

Will the architects Herzog & de Meuron with their new museum manage to bring the various architectural styles around the Kulturforum into an optical relationship, creating a space to linger? An inspiring question for our discussion over a cup of coffee.
