WiB trip to Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and the Rheingau region

From May 22nd until May 24th, 2024, the 18-strong WIB group enjoyed a trip to Hesse that was packed full of highlights and interesting insights into this federal state.

After arriving by train, there was a guided tour of Frankfurt's old town with a visit to the historic St. Paul's Church. This was followed by culinary tastings of Frankfurt sausages, the famous green sauce and Bethmännchen (marzipan cookies), a panoramic view from the roof terrace on the 50th floor of the Main Tower and a visit to a rustic Äppelwoi pub.

On the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, we went to Wiesbaden to visit the State Chancellery with a reception by the Hessian State Secretary Karin Müller. We then traveled by bus to the Rheingau, walked through the famous Rüdesheim Drosselgasse and took the cable car to the Niederwalddenkmal. Next on the agenda was a visit to Eberbach Monastery, famous for the film adaptation of the book 'In the Name of the Rose'. Not only were we able to visit the wine cellar there, but we were also able to taste the good quality of the Riesling from this largest state winery.

A delicious dinner in the monastery tavern and a fun slide in the monastery garden rounded off our visit. On Friday morning, we had the pleasure of taking the Thermine, a small train, through the really beautiful city of Wiesbaden, visiting the impressive Greek Chapel on the Neroberg and from there taking a water-powered cog railroad back down into the valley. Before we had to make our way back to Berlin, we were given a special guided tour of the Reinhard Ernst Museum, which is due to open soon. This alone was worth the trip to Wiesbaden for everyone!
