Visit to the KPM
On Monday, 22 November 2021, Managing Director Martina Hacker, greeted the Unknown Berlin group warmly at KPM Berlin. She gave a brief introduction about KPM that was founded by King Frederick the Great in 1763. Thereafter, Dr. Carsten Glitzky, the production manager, took the members to an exclusive tour and explained in detail the complex techniques and the fascinating art of porcelain manufacture. The overview of KPM’s development over the years was presented by Claudia Tetzlaff, the head of the KPM Archive, who showed the members the unique exhibits representing KPM‘s history.
The members were thrilled for the opportunity to visit the porcelain painting department where they could observe and watch up close how the artists work. Every single decoration is painted in freehand. Did you know that every single piece must pass through at least 15 hands before it receives the famous trademark form of cobalt blue scepter? For the painted porcelain, it has to go through even more production steps! It was simply amazing. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of you who made this wonderful visit possible.
