From Occupiers to Allies

On 11 November 2025 at 11 a.m., we weren’t toasting the start of Carnival — instead, we were exploring the Allied Museum in Dahlem with Berlin Unknown. During a guided tour, we delved into Berlin’s intriguing and dramatic history from 1945 to 1993, a time when American, British, and French occupiers slowly transformed into allies and friends.

Denazification, the Marshall Plan, the Berlin Blockade, the rise of the Wall, and the tensions of the Cold War took on real depth as we encountered original artifacts and vivid explanations. Particularly striking of all were our chance to step inside an actual “raisin bomber” and the museum’s reconstructed spy tunnel that once stretched from West to East.
