Fireside Chat with Roderich Kiesewetter

On 25 March 2026, the Science Talk group launched its first group event in collaboration with the WiB Special Event at the library of the Federal Foreign Office, hosted by Prof. Dr. Stephan G. Humer. The evening’s inaugural guest was Roderich Kiesewetter, CDU politician, member of the Bundestag, a retired colonel, and author of “What Do We Want? What Can We Do? Germany’s Role in the Global Shift in Power”, and above all, an engaging conversationalist.

The opening hour passed almost unnoticed, carried by a lively exchange in which he addressed numerous questions with both clarity and depth. The discussion spanned a wide range of topics: from current political issues, such as Iran and the war in Ukraine to philosophical reflections including references inspired by Jürgen Habermas.

Mr. Kiesewetter also shared personal insights into his work on the book and a perspective on the future that was both clear-eyed and optimistic.
The discussion continued informally at a reception in the Blue Hall of the Federal Foreign Office, where Mr. Kiesewetter remained in close dialogue with guests and took time for further questions. More than 60 attendees—including diplomats, Berlin WiB members, and staff of the Federal Foreign Office—welcomed the new format with great enthusiasm. The Science Talk is set to become a regular event, scheduled every two to three months.
