The Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Wiko) is widely regarded as one of the finest research institutions, if not the foremost among them. Fellows invited by Wiko enjoy extensive academic freedom throughout their nearly year-long residence. During the visit on 16 June 2026, the members of the Science Group learned about this and many other distinctive features of this outstanding research institution from the Rector, Professor Dr. Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger, her secretary, PD Dr. Iris Fleßenkämper, the Head of Academic Programs, Professor Dr. Daniel Schönpflug, and the Head of Press and Public Relations, Katharina Wiedemann.

Following an in-depth discussion, the visit continued with a guided tour of the house and gardens, culminating in a lively exchange on the role of science and research in challenging times.
