Gladys Abankwa-Meier-Klodt - Treasurer

The daughter of two Ghanaian career diplomats, Gladys grew up at the intersection of diverse cultures, reinventing herself in response to her surroundings.

A microbiologist with two degrees from McGill University, her incarnations have included interior designer, intercultural communication trainer, journalist, and author. She initiated and implemented workshops to prepare German Federal Foreign Office families for ex- and repatriation, and wrote the first authoritative architectural history of New Delhi’s purpose-built diplomatic enclave.

A veteran of postings to Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Romania and Ireland as the accompanying spouse of a German diplomat, she joined Willkommen in Berlin as a founding member in 1999. Over the ensuing years, Gladys has supported the club at various times as interest group leader, facilitator of a workshop for newcomers to Berlin, and translator/editor. She is honoured to be entrusted with this latest role.
