Christmas market Dresden

Dresden is a city of art and culture, where magnificent architecture and rich collections showcase the splendour of its past. What better time of the year for a visit than Advent, when Dresden presents Germany's oldest Christmas market, the Striezelmarkt, in addition to all the sights.

The first event on the program was a meeting with Jan Donhauser, the first mayor, in the town hall. During a guided tour, we admired the Golden Gate, the bronze lions and the impressive staircase. The following city walk with a tour guide, lunch at Taschenberg Palais, a visit to the Green Vault or the Striezelmarket provided detailed opportunities to get to know Dresden better.

Visitors to the Christmas bakery were introduced into the secret of the original recipe for Stollen and were able to taste it together with mulled wine. We could understand, why Dresdener Stollen is famous all over the world. Meanwhile, visitors to the Green Vault marveled at the treasures of the baroque treasure chamber.

It was an all-round successful day trip. Our conclusion: Dresden is worth a visit!
