Digital Civil Courage

On November 9, 2023, the new Willkommen-in-Berlin Sustainability group attended the “How to install digital civil courage” symposium at the beautiful Bauhaus building of “Touro College.” The college is nestled between the Grunewald forest and the shores of the Stößensee.

We arrived at the academic conference during a coffee break, which allowed our members to chat amongst themselves for a while and engage in a bit of people-watching. The other attendees made up a refreshingly convivial group of academic minds, comprised of students, professors, government officials, and other interested professionals. The keynote speaker, Felix Klein, Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight Against Antisemitism, presented an overview of the important work of the Commission. Unfortunately, the highly anticipated podium discussion was postponed, presumably due to the international political and humanitarian crisis precipitated by the terrorist attacks in Israel.

Nonetheless, attendees were able to mingle and address the important themes brought up by Mr. Klein during a delicious Kosher buffet lunch. After lunch, students and professors provided interesting insights into their own cutting-edge academic research in the emerging research field of digital civil courage.

The Sustainability group thanks Touro College for inviting us to this interesting event and giving us food for thought on social sustainability.

*In its inaugural season, the Sustainability Group is experimenting with a variety of themes and formats to discover what resonates best with our members.
