Back to the 50’s

Our first architecture walk in the new club season led us to Hansaviertel north of the Tiergarten. Enthusiastically, architect and author Ulf Meier showed us the neighbourhood which was built in the 1950s in the framework of the International Building Exhibition.

Famous architects like Oscar Niemeyer, Walter Gropius and Alvar Aalto brought Germany back into the circle of modern architecture nations with their design of skyscrapers, family houses and a neighbourhood library with an atrium. In the cafeteria of the Academy of Art we discussed our observations further.

Our next walk in February will lead us to exceptional underground stations like Wittenbergplatz and Museumsinsel.
