A pleasant afternoon at Lake Spandau

Despite the cold raindrops, enthusiasm and cheerful mood colored the first event of Munch & Mingle group on October 5th, 2023. The nature next to the premises, where a number of bird species and semi-aquatic mammals adopted the peninsula as their home, does not seem to be disturbed by the engine noise from the luxury car collections such as Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

Mr. Alexander Gregor, the Site Manager of Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin took the WiB members on a guided tour through the buildings and the showrooms. Machines and automobiles from General Motors were manufactured on this 40,000 m² historic industrial site in 1927. On this site, the Danish entrepreneur, J. S. Rasmussen began the steam car (DKW = Dampf Kraft Wagen) production in January 1928. Mr. Gregor also explained the extraordinary hotel project in cooperation with Titanic Hotels group, which comprises about 105 modern designed hotel rooms and serviced apartments converted from shipping containers. Many of them have a view of Lake Spandau. The Citadel, where various concerts are played during summer, is in the immediate vicinity. While looking at the project presentation board with great interest, the members were imagining how the area would look like in 2025 when the hotel is planned to be ready to welcome their first guests.

The tour ended at DG Weine, the first gastronomy in Motorworld Berlin since 2021. Due to its unique location, this small but cosy cafe suited our group concept well. The members happily settled down inside the cafe after the tour in the rain and enjoyed each other’s company over Italian snacks and excellent wine. The sunshine even appeared, which gave the members an idea to come back in the warmer season to take a seat on the terrace of the cafe or simply chill out by the water.
