Hiking through the land of Brandenburg - Blankensee-Trebbin

In order to make the beautiful surroundings of Berlin accessible to the club’s diplomatic guests and members, a hiking group was installed. It is led by Katja Ehinger. Located only a few kilometres further south from Berlin, you find the nature reserve Nuthetal-Nieplitz.

Starting point was the lovely village of Blankensee, which was honoured by the EU for its extraordinary engagement in the renewal of structures. Coming along “Sudermann’s hideaway”, a manor house with its gardens planned by Lenné, the group went through light and clean little alleys, diving right into the green. A wooden plank surrounded by reeds offered an outstanding view onto the lake where the fish were jumping and wild geese, swans and ducks could be seen. The lake of Blankensee therefore is a marvellous place to watch water birds flying in, especially shortly after sunrise and before sunset. While appreciating vivid and cheerful conversations, the group, including three dogs, went across luscious meadows and fields into scented woods with colours slightly changing into indian summer. Humans and dogs enjoyed the warm temperatures, the tranquility of nature and the fresh air.

The two-hour walk ended at “Café Fritz” where splendid homemade sandwiches and cakes could be eaten. The participants had really deserved the refreshments.
